These FAQs help you understand how to prepare for ultrasound, what to expect, and how scans are performed at UIC Vision.

Preparation depends on the type of scan. Some require fasting, while others require a full bladder. Our team will inform you during appointment scheduling.

Yes. A full bladder is required for pelvic and early pregnancy scans as it helps provide a clearer view of pelvic organs and the fetus.

Yes. Fasting for 6–8 hours is recommended for abdominal scans to reduce bowel gas and improve visibility of liver, gallbladder, pancreas, and bile ducts.

Yes. For scans like breast, thyroid, MSK, pediatric, Doppler, or neck ultrasound, no fasting or special preparation is generally required.

Yes. Ultrasound is completely safe and radiation-free, and is routinely performed for fetal monitoring during pregnancy.

Yes. Most scans can be performed during menstruation, except follicular monitoring, which requires a specific cycle schedule advised by the radiologist.

No. Ultrasound is non-invasive and painless. A probe is gently moved over the skin with a gel to improve clarity.

Wear comfortable, loose clothing. For pelvic, abdominal or obstetric scans, two-piece clothing is more convenient.

All scans are performed by expert radiologists, with a female radiologist available for women’s scans when preferred or required.

Reports are generated by senior radiologists with fast turnaround. If additional imaging or follow-up is needed, our team will guide you.

Preparation may vary depending on the type of Doppler (obstetric, renal, vascular, etc.). Instructions will be provided at the time of booking.
